ABOUT

Market Day is the 2nd Saturday of November

Join us for our 29th annual Wichita Alternative Gift Market on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Hillside Christian Church–thanks to Hillside for hosting us again the third year in a row!

Thanks to all who joined us for the 28th Annual market in 2022 at Hillside CC. We raised over $22,000 on market day (and nearly $28,000 total with “mini-markets” hosted by our partners after market day). That’s a lot of food, medicine, educational supplies and more for our neighbors in need, in Wichita and around the world.

Want to do more than just shop? Volunteer!

Join us for “Project Picking Night:”

Thursday, September 7th, 2023 at 7pm
at Hillside Christian Church
(in the Fellowship Hall)
8330 E. Douglas Avenue
Wichita, KS 67206-2345
(Just East of Rock Road on Douglas, across from/North of The Independent School)

See the “Partners” tab/page for more information about volunteering with your group as a sponsor of an Alternative Gifts International cause at the market.

Can’t make it to the in-person market? You can still support the regional, national, and international causes online through December 15, 2023 through our “crowdfund:”

2017 Wichita Alternative Gift Market at University Congregational Church, Wichita.

Alternative gifts  honor family, friends, and colleagues and provide an alternative to our modern culture of consumerism.

Instead of buying candy for Aunt Sally, a shopper at this market might sponsor food for a pantry in the U.S. or purchase medicines for families in a developing country. Aunt Sally receives an attractive card telling her about this unique gift given in her honor. You also may choose to give her a hand-made ornament to represent the gift; complimentary ornaments handmade by volunteers, are a unique feature of the Wichita Alternative Gift Market.

Most of the gifts at such a market are available through the Alternative Gifts International annual catalog. The gifts offered in the “Gifts Inspiring Change” catalog are unique.  They are gifts of peace and justice, gifts that are sustainable and that build security. These alternative gifts multiply and grow, sometimes exponentially, and offer hope and new life to people facing grave crises and need. They challenge the trivia of our modern culture. These are authentic gifts that people really use and cherish. They always fit and are never thrown away.
