Event Details

Weighing in at 1,500 pounds, the massive confection is an authentic reproduction of Carnival’s newest ship complete with open decks, running lights, a water park and even a working replica of BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea. The real Mardi Gras is set to debut in 2020 from Port Canaveral – just a short flight or drive for Atlantans. Following maritime tradition, the gingerbread ship will be named by local cake artist and Food Network star, Karen Portaleo, who helped design the elaborate vessel. The ship will take 250 hours to bake and build and will be comprised of 130 pounds of flour, 10 pounds of cinnamon and 50 gallons of icing. During the ceremony Portaleo will serve as godmother, officially welcoming the gingerbread ship as the newest member of the Carnival fleet. Carnival is also making a $10,000 donation to Portaleo’s charity of choice. Mall visitors can interact with the ship through a fun custom Snapchat geofilter, special Snapchat AR lenses that provide a peek into Mardi Gras’ many on board innovations, and a GIF booth for shoppers to capture how they’re Choosing Fun with Carnival. The gingerbread ship will be on display at the mall through Dec. 24.
