Our annual open weekend where everyone's welcome is from 23rd - 25th June 2023 -
join us to watch fast-paced track racing, hear some amazing cycling stories, or have a go!

Great Racing for All - Ride or Spectate!
Friday evening features a new HHV Team Crit competition, Saturday is Madison and Derny racing
as well as HHV Vets League and Sunday features the legendary FHHV Team Champs.

Jan’s Cafe will be open and serving our full range of hot and cold food, snacks, tea and coffee, soft drinks and beer and wine.
We will also have plenty of other options available!

Lend us a hand?
Help out at Velofete, we're looking for a team of volunteers to assist us with set up and during the weekend,
if you're able to spare an hour or two during the weekend, please sign up here.

Support Velofete
We're asking for donations over this weekend to help support this event - your donation will go towards the continued
funding of cycling and healthy lifestyle activities at the Velodrome: we provide a huge range of sessions on site for new
and experienced cyclists. young and old, with inclusivity and accessibility for all at our core.

  • £2 - subsidises a session for a child from a disadvantaged background

  • £3 - replaces a flat inner tube in one of our hire bikes 

  • £5 - replaces a worn chain

  • £5 - supports a free session for a local school child

  • £10 - replaces a track bike tyre

  • £20 - provides a coach to teach kids how to ride a bike

  • £50 - does all of the above and more!


Friday 23rd June

VELOFETE CRITERIUM

Get the weekend started with a bonus HHV crit race. Head down, cheer the riders and enjoy some food, drinks and music as the sun sets on our first evening of Velofete.

Saturday 24th June

MORNING

Mountain Bike Races
Herne Hill Youth Cycling Club are hosting ‘come and try’
race event on our MTB trails, an opportunity for kids
and their parents to tackle the course with coached
guidance available before you take on the course.

Frog Bikes and balance bikes for kids
For children, we'll be able to welcome them to our inner track, with coaches available to give them tips on their cycling technique in our central games area and inner track course our Balance Bike Practice area is open too.

The Cycle Chat Stage

10:00am – Children’s event - Kung Fu Dragon Disco
Award winning author/performer Gareth P Jones presents a selection of stories & songs based on his books including Rabunzel, Dragon Detective & Death or Ice cream. Expect fast rapping, live music & lots of laughs. For children of all ages.

11:00am - Children’s event
A drawing workshop for kids aged 4-8 by award-winning author and illustrator Frann Preston-Gannon

11:30am - Being Brave and Facing Fears: Cycling psychology tools to help you be your best on the bike
A talk by Sport Psychologist & author Dr Josephine Perry.

AFTERNOON

Try out the Trails
If off road riding is more your thing, you'll be able to have a taste of our trails course - it's suitable for all kinds of bikes: MTB, cross, gravel, road (with wide/knobbly tyres), that old clunker from the back of the shed - but you’ll want to get it muddy! There’s youth, family and adult session options available

We’ve got exciting racing for younger track riders with a mixed event including Kierin racing with our fleet of motor-pacing bikes. The bikes will also be in use for adult Derny racing and thrilling Madison events. Racing from 2:30 - 6pm. Sign up to race now!

A panel discussion featuring Jools Walker, Richard Liston (RideFest, Islington CC),
Naomi Rumble (Together We Ride), Zainab Arian (Cycle Sisters) and Andy Edwards (author of Diversity in Cycling).


3:30pm - The Midlife Cyclist: Grow Old. Get Fast. Don’t die!
A talk by Phil Cavell, author of The Midlife Cyclist and founder of Cyclefit

5:00pm – Record Breaking Rides: how endurance records are broken
In discussion: Michael Hutchinson aka Doctor Hutch (Cycling Weekly, author of Faster, The Hour and others)

7pm - Watch the old folk fly!

It's our monthly Vets League, so plenty of racing to watch from our regular group of racers over the age of 40, and women over 30, expect a good selection of bunch races as they battle it out on the track.

Wheels for Wellbeing will be on our inner track with an opportunity
for kids to try out their bikes and hear more about their work

Kids Off-road
Our youth coaches take to the trails as we get the kids tackling the
off-road paths and all the ups, downs and bumps that go with the territory!
Great for curious minds and building bike handling and co-ordination skills.

Afternoon

12pm - The Friends of Herne Hill Velodrome Team Champs
Teams of 4 racing other teams of 4 in various events including Sprints, Scratch, Individual Pursuit, Keirin, Team Devil and Team Pursuit. Each rider must complete 3 events and the team with the biggest score wins! An annual HHV classic.

We're asking for donations over this weekend to help support the event - we think your visit is worth £5 / adult, with kids welcome free of charge. We recognise that this might be unaffordable for you, so please give what you feel is affordable for you.

Your donation will go towards the continued funding of cycling and healthy lifestyle activities at the Velodrome: we provide a huge range of sessions on site for new and experienced cyclists. young and old, with inclusivity and accessibility for all at our core.

Getting to HHV & Site Map

We would like to encourage you to make a sustainable journey.
There will be a large bike parking facility available on site and our car park is closed unless have a need for an accessible parking space.
