A 3-day conference exploring how criminal intent can be identified by behavioural indicators and non-racial profiling
About us
Green Light is delighted to be hosting the 6th edition of the Behavioural Analysis series of conferences. In line with previous edition (Cardiff, 2018; Minneapolis, 2019; Online, 2020; Northampton, 2022; and, Prague, 2023), our next event will deliver practical insights into the behavioural analysis techniques used to identify individuals with negative intent. Bringing together security practitioners and those engaged in academic research, Behavioural Analysis 2024 will allow delegates to develop their knowledge of non-racial profiling through presentations from leading experts in the security industry. At the moment, simply save the date: 21-23 May 2024. The security industry must continue to evolve to protect society from terrorist, criminal and other forms of attack. Those working in the industry must acquire the necessary skill sets to detect the subtle signs of negative intent, and learn how to deal with the threat accordingly. And joining the debate in 2024 will be one step in the right direction...

The Behavioural Analysis 2024 session entitled ‘Crowded Places or…Identifying the Needle in the Haystack’, moderated by Aaron Le Boutillier MSc, addresses how behaviour detection techniques can be utilised - for security benefit - in crowded, fast-paced environments, often with continuous rapid movement, when checkpoints are not an option. It may be the penultimate session of the conference, but it is the one which you, the delegates, have been asking for the most! So, how might we identify persons with hostile or negative intent in a crowded place - be it at a shopping mall, on a beach, at an open-air festival or at a sports stadium? Dr. Craig Donald will look at how members of a crime syndicate might be identified during tactics and actions of actual theft - based on things like proximity, positioning, roles such as lookouts/distractors, covert communications and coordinated movement. This presentation will be of interest to any entity with a CCTV control room. Oliver Kastens will then be sharing one specific technique for crowd management and will be explaining the theory behind, and principles of, crowd area and behaviour influence analysis - better known as CAB Analysis. This approach enables the evaluation of event spaces and, based on the profiles of expected visitors, the behaviours of those within such spaces. The panel Q&A will also include Dave Gregg - representing our conference venue, Brentford Football Club, itself a crowded space on match days! ‘The Question of Questioning’ session at Behavioural Analysis 2024 addresses how to resolve concerns we might have about an individual by means of investigative interviewing and our ability to elicit information. Observing suspicious behaviours is the easy part, determining whether such concerns were indicative of a threat to a person or facility requires more advanced skillsets. Our panel, moderated by Diana Nowek, is very international in nature, with speakers from Australia, Iceland and Nigeria. Dr David Keatley, author of “The Deception Detection Handbook: Read my lips, Mark my words” will be exploring behaviour detection in the context of a security interview with his presentation, "Deception Detection: it's not what you say or the way that you say it". Detective Chief Inspector Eiríkur Valberg, of the Reykjavik Metropolitan Police (and also a lecturer in criminal investigation at the University of Akureyri ) will be providing delegates with an Icelandic perspective on suspect interviews and questioning whether, indeed, there is any proven value in reading body language, or nonverbal communication, during such processes. And the session concludes with a West African perspective on human intuition and investigative interviewing in which Nkechi Onyenso, the Managing Director & CEO of Pathfinders International Limited, shares her operational experience and some specific illustrative case studies.
