Overview

The UCSF Ophthalmology Update will feature local and internationally known experts in the areas of glaucoma, cataract, retina, uveitis, pediatric ophthalmology, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, neuro-ophthalmology and  refractive surgery. The program is designed for comprehensive ophthalmologists including those who perform cataract surgery, manage patients  with glaucoma, optic nerve disorders, and retinovascular disease.

Objectives

An attendee completing this course will be able to improve skills and strategies for:

  • Effect of cataract surgery alone and cataract surgey in combination with glaucoma surgery on the intraocular pressure.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of monofocal, toric, and premium intraocular lenses in patients with keratoconus, diabetes, uveitis and glaucoma.
  • Precautions to prevent development or worsening of diabetic macular edema after cataract surgery.
  • Determining who is a candidate for treatment with intravitreal therapy for geographic atrophy.
  • Mechanisms of action for therapy for geographic atrophy.
  • Identifying patients that are at risk for developing choroidal neovascularization with treatment for geotraphic atrophy.
  • Trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage devices in the management of advanced glaucoma.
  • Identifying candidates for ciliary body cyclodestructive procedures.
  • Identifying candidates with angle closure glaucoma who are candidates for clear lens extraction.
  • Current research surrounding the role of biomechanics in the development and progression of glaucoma.
  • Identifying candidates for local therapy in uveitis.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, University of California, San Francisco Office of Continuing Medical Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
 
UCSF has approved this program for CME credit: UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
Geriatric: 
The approved credits shown above include 3.75 credits toward meeting the requirement under California Assembly Bill 1820, Geriatric Medicine

Optometrists:
For the purpose of recertification, the California Board of Optometry accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

The total 10.75 credits are inclusive of 3.50 in Glaucoma.

 
Nurses:
For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
