Choirs at Work

  • St Katharine Cree 86 Leadenhall Street London, England, EC3A 3BP United Kingdom (map)

The Brandenburg Festival welcomes Citi London Choir & The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir to sing a diverse repertoire of pop, gospel, folk and classical songs. Including classics such as Blackbird, Steal Away, The Lord is My Shepherd, Turtle Dove and I’m Still Standing, this evening’s performance is sure to have music to suit every taste!

Citi Choir was established in 2013 by Gareth Malone, competing with four other workplace choirs in his highly popular BBC television series: Sing While You Work. They made it to the final which was broadcast from Ely Cathedral at Christmas 2013 to a TV audience in excess of 3 million people. Led by top music professionals Dan Ludford-Thomas and Peter Mitchell they perform a diverse repertoire for clients, colleagues and the community. Notable performances include singing at Cipriani's in New York City in support of the American Cancer Society, at Birmingham's Symphony Hall to raise funds for Water Aid, and at St James Palace in the presence of HRH Princess Alexandra in support of autism and music charities. The choir has also performed alongside Gareth Malone's professional choir at the Eventim Hammersmith Apollo, for clients at the British Museum and the V&A Museum, and for dignitaries at the gala launch dinner of London's Pride Festival 2014 held at the Mansion House. In 2016 they won the Music in Offices Office Choir of the Year competition.

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir was formed in 2012 for the first series of "Sing While You Work" with Gareth Malone, and is made up of staff from across the NHS workforce, including hospital and community staff. The choir has continued to rehearse for over ten years, bringing together staff across the Trust, both those working with patients and those behind the scenes. Following a wave of public support and some kind words from Justin Bieber, who encouraged fans to buy the single, they reached the coveted Christmas Number 1 spot in 2015 with their single " A Bridge Over You". As well as lending their support to community and NHS events around the country they have performed at high profile events. In 2016 they appeared at the Glastonbury Festival, opening the legendary Pyramid stage, performed at the FA Cup Final and Carfest. In July 2017 they supported The Jacksons at Greenwich Music Time festival.
