This course will cover key updates in cardio-oncology clinical practice and research over the last year, and also review key fundamental topics regarding the management of cardiac and vascular diseases affecting patients with cancer and cancer survivors. Fundamental topics will include heart failure, myocarditis, vascular disease, and arrhythmias associated with cancer therapies, as well as the cardiac effects of radiation therapy.  

The interactive format will include case presentations, state-of-the-art lectures, and the opportunity for attendees to submit challenging cases for group discussion. The goals of the course are to improve quality, safety and outcomes for cancer patients with cardiac disease and to bring together members of the cardio-oncology community to learn from each other's experiences. 


*NEW*  IC-OS Board Review Sessions.   During the optional sessions, IC-OS members will review board style questions with participants.  Participation in all board review sessions will offer 3.00 additional credit hours and requires separate registration.  The target audience is attendees who are considering registering for the IC-OS Cardio-Oncology Board Certification Exam (https://ic-os.org/board-certification-admin/) or any attendees who are interested in additional cardio-oncology education in a question and answer format.  The objectives of the board review sessions are to:

  1. Solidify knowledge gained throughout the course by reviewing board style questions and answers with cardio-oncology experts
  2. Help prepare participants for the IC-OS Cardio-Oncology Board Certification certificate exam

      

LIVE (in-person) attendees must comply with all live course requirements and guidelines and applicable state and local COVID-19 travel restrictions, guidance and resources.  

Please note that LIVE course attendees must: 

  • Provide proof of vaccination prior to event admission. You must be logged in to ce.mayo.edu to provide proof of vaccination
  • Complete COVID-19 testing and provide attestation that a negative test result was received within 72 hours or less of the event start date or provide attestation that you received a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result within the previous 90 days, that it has been at least 10 days since the positive test result, and that you are currently asymptomatic.  You must be logged in to ce.mayo.edu to  complete your attestation

Learners who do not fulfill the above requirements will be unable to attend the live (in-person) event.

Target Audience

This course is designed for general cardiologists, heart failure specialists, and advanced practice providers working in cardiology who either currently practice cardio-oncology or aim to expand their practice into the field to optimize the care of this patient population. The course is also designed for providers in hematology, oncology, and internal medicine as they are often the first to encounter and diagnose patients with cardiotoxicity related to cancer therapies. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify classes of chemotherapeutic agents commonly associated with cardiovascular risk
  • Outline appropriate cardiac surveillance plans for patients receiving cancer therapies with potential cardiac toxicities
  • Describe treatment and manage myocarditis secondary to checkpoint inhibitor therapy
  • Describe treatment and manage hypertension secondary to tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy
  • Describe treatment and manage heart failure secondary to cancer therapy

This course offers live (in person) and livestream attendance options. 

A special room block rate of $325 (USD), plus applicable city/state taxes, and a discounted resort service charge per night is available to guests. Group rates will apply three days prior to and three days after the course dates of November 4-6, 2021, based on availability. To ensure accommodations, please make your reservation before the room block quickly fills, or by October 4, 2021.

The discounted resort service fee of $25 ($40 double occupancy) includes a bundle of added values:

  • Daily basic internet access in guestrooms (normally $14.99 per room/day)
  • Daily basic internet access in meeting space and public areas (normally $30 per person/day)
  • Roundrtrip porterage cost ($12.00 round trip/per person)
  • $25 Spa credit per paid night, towards a body or facial treatment at the Well & Being Spa (this credit is not accumulative and is valid once per day). 

Parking charges are not included in the above rates.  The current charge for overnight valet parking is $24.00 per day, overnight self-parking is $15.00 per day, daytime valet parking is $12.00 per day, and daytime self-parking is $8.00 per day.  These rates are subject to change without notice.
