The 2nd Annual Mayo Clinic Thyroid and Parathyroid Disorders Course 2021 is a three-day CME course offering a comprehensive review of diagnostic techniques and medical and surgical management of thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Topics of discussion will include the assessment of benign thyroid diseases as well as pre-and postoperative management of thyroid cancer and parathyroid disorders. Discussion will include review of cutting-edge imaging modalities and diagnostic methods such as molecular testing for evaluation of thyroid nodules as well as therapeutic options for the management of benign and malignant thyroid and parathyroid conditions. This program will consist of a combination of lectures and panel discussion of diagnostic and therapeutic options for management of challenging parathyroid and thyroid cases, as well as round table small group discussions with various experienced speakers.

Target Audience

The course is designed for endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, head and neck surgeons, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other providers who care for patients with thyroid and parathyroid disorders.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Comprehend parathyroid and thyroid (benign and malignant) disorders including best practices
• Identify indications for parathyroid surgery and medical management of parathyroid diseases
• Discuss the role and accuracy of parathyroid imaging in detection of parathyroid lesions and new promising imaging modalities
• Describe diagnosis and management of parathyroid diseases in various complex conditions such as chronic kidney disease
• Become familiar with recent advances in the treatment of patients with thyroid cancer
• Recognize the role of molecular testing for the diagnostic evaluation of thyroid nodules
• Explain NIFTP diagnostic criteria, management, and follow up
